About the Book

English poetry begins with Anglo-Saxon poetry such as the hymn on the creation, which Bede attributes to Cædmon (658–680AD). William Shakespeare was the stand out poet of the Elizabethan period, while Milton was considered the greatest poet of Jacobean and Caroline pe5riod (1603-1670). The Romantic movement was very big, proiducing such greats as William Blake, William Wordsworth, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Percy Bysshe Shelley, Lord Byron, and John Keats. The major Victorian poets were John Clare, Alfred, Lord Tennyson, Robert Browning, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Matthew Arnold and Gerard Manley Hopkins. James Macpherson was the first Scottish poet to gain an international reputation, while Robert Burns is regarded as the national poet of Scotland. The most important figure of Scottish Romanticism, Walter Scott, began as a poet. In Wales the works of the great hymn writers of the 18th and 19th centuries were the poets William Williams Pantycelyn and Ann Griffiths. In the early 20th century there was a Welsh renaissance, with poets like T. H. Parry-Williams and D. Gwenallt Jones and T. Gwynn Jones.

The complete works of George Eliot; Romola Vol III George Eliot Books

One of the greatest authors who ever contributed to English literature. This has all her classics. I have never seen modern novels with the depth of psychological insight in some of her novels, such as Middlemarch, Mill on the Floss, Silas Marner, Adam Bede, and Daniel Deronda. There might be one or two of the novels you want to skip.

The complete works of George Eliot; Romola Vol III George Eliot Books Reviews

I bought it after reading another online review that said all of the great novels are in this book. This book contains only "Adam Bede" and "The Lifted Veil." Though it is an 800+ page book, "Adam Bede" is 53 chapters long. I was hoping to read Middlemarch after reading Silas Marner. They are not in this book.
George Eliot is a classic writer, and a bold woman to try to swim upstream in a man's world. I have read "Adam Bede", "The Mill on the Floss" and "Silas Marner," [we called it "Silent Murder" in high school back in the 1960's]. These old books paint a good portrait of people of the times, and their fears based so much on what other people think of them. There are some universal, timeless elements that can be extracted into our lives today, but mostly it's good escape reading.
I think with such amazingly prolific 19th century authors, "complete" is always going to be a work in progress with e-collections. Unlike several other companies, however, Delphi Classics is extremely good about updating their author collections as they turn up more material. You don't have to repurchase the updated versions, although does not yet have an easy way of re-uploading (you still have to contact them). I highly recommend this George Eliot collection for its orderly presentation of her works, its clean and easy to navigate layout and its use of introductions to individual works. The images are a much appreciated added bonus. Although it's easy enough to gather her individual books for free, it's wonderful to have these masterpieces all together in one place, presented with care and at a remarkably low price.
George Eliot's writing is quite entertaining should your likes run toward the England of the 1700's and wish to follow the adventures of communities or specific families for a period of time.
Rereading some of her writings aftermany years and found I like her style even more than I thought. She may be a knotch above Dickens. What a command of the language! She begs to beread and reread. Thank Heavens for my --I can take her anywhere.
Well, not everything is here, but only a completest would want more. For example, there is a novella, Tom and Maggie Tolliver, with 13 short chapters, that is not included (this may be an exerpt of The Mill on the Floss, I'm not sure). No translations are included, nor letters. I believe some journaling is missing, and possibly some essays.

That said, everything the publisher has listed is here 1) All seven novels, including, Middlemarch, the Mill on the Floss, and Silas Marner. I believe all the major essays and poetry are here.

But here are the 2 biggest selling points The presentation of the the text itself is flawless with very minimal typing errors. Plus, every chapter is hyperlinked to the table of contents, which is set up in a most convenient manner. This is the very best of compilations for 2 bucks. It just doesn't get any better than this.
George Eliot is a great author who repays careful reading.
This edition is quite well proofread, for a smooth reading exprience.
I must admit that some of her passages were a bit ... long ... for my taste, but the stories were all well worth reading.
One of the greatest authors who ever contributed to English literature. This has all her classics. I have never seen modern novels with the depth of psychological insight in some of her novels, such as Middlemarch, Mill on the Floss, Silas Marner, Adam Bede, and Daniel Deronda.
